Dolphin,
There is nothing more to say actually, dolphin takes no adjectives really perhaps with the exception of angel. Yes, a dolphin is an angel – in the sea. They offer us their love, they offer us their help in healing our kids; mentally disabled children are known to communicate with dolphins. The bond between a child and a dolphin is beyond words.
Well, Hellcome to Turkey. A land where even a dolphin will be tortured. In fact, torture won’t begin to describe what happened to this particular dolphin in the Mediterranean holiday town of Datca today.
Its dead body came ashore around noon today. Its mouth was covered in blood. To its tail they had chained a number of heavy stones to make sure that it would sink. Furthermore, its entire abdominal area was cut open with a sharp object (sadism knows no limits here, God knows what that object was). If you can stomach scenes of a tortured angel, take a look at the pictures.
If you still haven’t signed our petition, do not waste another second after you look at these pictures.

They ARE angels and this is nothing more than specieist hatred and cruelty. There’s no excuse for this kind of behaviour and humans have used up any credit they might have had in the eyes of other creatures. It’s our time to leave and begone.
Hummm the Turks say they don’t like the Greeks – the Greeks say they don’t like the Turks – don’t know why not – they are much the same when it comes to the way they treat their animals !
Time they pulled their socks up and heard the voice of the people around the world who are shouting out for justice for these animals ! Time for them to WAKE UP and start making and seriously enforcing animal welfare laws – and made the right example of how animals should be treated, cared for – and the wildlife respected that live on your land – fly in your air – and swim in your waters !

Turkey cannot call itself a ‘European’ country unless it enacts and enforces legislation protecting the rights of animals. As dependent species, animals constitute a collective charge upon our conscience. It is barbarous, outmoded, unethical, inhumane, fiendish and evil to inflict pain, injury and death upon a voiceless and defenceless animal that is at our mercy. Shame on the monsters who tortured this poor hapless dolphin! It is on the level of torturing a messenger from God. The ancient Greeks were far more civilised with respect to their attitude to dolphins, for the dolphin was considered sacred to Athena and hence protected by the populace and by fishermen. Does the ‘modern’ religion of Turkey consider itself superior to the ‘pagan creed’ of ancient Greece, then?

Whoa, I didn’t know this was going on in Turkey! Glad I found out….My family (including my husband’s parents, sister and her family) were planning a month-long vacation to Istanbul.
NEVERMIND! After discussing this with all invloved, we have decided to CHANGE OUR VACATION PLANS. Turkey will NOT receive a dime from THIS animal-friendly family until this colossal tragedy ends.
Turkey shows neither compassion and respect for human live nor for animal life …… in my opinion they are so far away from being even only remotely considered European as possible. I am aware of this sad news and almost all our newspapers wrote them down as an ashame. But u can’t blame all Turks with behaving like that. In Turkey we have lots of places for animal care and i have lots of friends spending their 3 months for saving caretta caretta i can give lots of examples like that and also i can put here lots of photos about the reverse of these situation so don’t blame please all of us. In every country there are lots of citizens doing lots of bad stuff u can’t judge just only looking the pictures. I invite u to Turkey to see the realty in here.

Well, i m a Turk and live in Istanbul and i have to say that i never actually see things like these happened. These things can not be regarded as like Turkish nor Greek people torture animals. im sad about all those things but its not only happening in Turkey but all around the world. Cruelty doesnt have any nation and nations do not torture, people do. People who harm or torture any living being have no country nor flag. I m not sure about Turkish Penal Code about animal rights but im sure it needs improvements and adjustments but this is not the right way, nobody has the right to offend any nation, as an example:

turkey is by far innocent than european countries when it comes to cruelty on animals. at least we never try to exploit the natural life in other continents and faraway lands, never organize safari hunts, there are no stuffed animals in natural history museums etc…
the main difference is, my people do these kind of things because of their lack of knowledge or simply ignorance. But you people do (and did, possibly still doing) these because of your arrogance.

First of all let me mention that I’m Turkish guy. I have a few things to say:
1. Act to improve better treatment of animals in Turkey. I’m OK with that and do support it.
2. Do not turn the act to hate propaganda or you’ll be contradicting with yourselves (because it’s essentially about love, no?) :
“sadism knows no limits here”
won’t bother to write about it: your prejudice, your problem. Centuries old, amusing story (from my perspective).
3. Dolphin case: Do you or the people around knew anything about what has actually happened to the poor animal?
“God knows what that object was” What about the propeller blades of a boat? You say it was already dead when came ashore? How can one torture and chain a dolphin with stones in the open sea? If it came ashore with the bricks why the bricks are not pointing to the sea?
The chain and stones (bricks?): what about someone “anchoring” it’s dead body to the coast for some reason? Did anyone bother to investigate?
4. A note on Turks and Greeks: We get along quite well with Greek people. I’m currently working in a highly international organization and Greeks are the people we get along the best. Problems the two countries having are mostly political or induced by European countries (mostly England). In fact England is directly responsible for many conflicts between Greece and Turkey, resulting in wars and deaths/suffering of thousands.
Another point, Turks “ruled” Greeks for at least, say, 500 years.
Today there’s an independent Greece. Please answer these questions for today’s Greece:
- What’s the religion of greece?
- Which language do they speak?
Now ask the same questions for european countries and the countries they invaded. at this point the following question becomes relevant:
5. Are the Turks European or not? The answer is simple: Turks are Turks, and that’s all that matters. I have no motivation to find anything “european” in me at all.

I support this petition 100%, because I think it will bring about an impetus for the government to start enforcing animals rights laws in Turkey, and yes there are animals rights laws enacted in Turkey contrary to the beliefs of some here, the issue is with enforcement of those laws.
However it looks like this petiiton is turning into a Turk bashing spree, to those commentators leaning towards that direction I would say shame on all of you for hijacking this noble cause. You should all know by now that animal cruelty knows no borders and transcends cultures. We’ve seen similar acts of animal cruelty all over the world including those in the so called civilized world, lets not forget the annual massacre of seal pups in Canada or the horrible conditions in which feed stocks are kept in the U.S!
There is a growing animal rights movement in Turkey with volunteer shelters working day and night to help. I can tell there are some “true” animal lovers amongst the commentators, my suggestion is why not scrap your vacation plans altogether this year and donate the money you would’ve otherwise spent to these shelters!

I am a Turkish citizen living in the United States of America. The mistreatment of animals is one of the major social problems in Turkey. People have such a hate toward them that is impossible to understand. The only law that is suppose to protect animals is consistently being ignored and violated by the municipalities and the goverment’s branches themselves.However, this doesn’t mean that Turkey is not a Europen country. It very much is. When you look at some of the EU members such Greece and Italy, you will see the similar pictures and encounter with the same ugliness. Turkey has to get himself together, it must pass a law that puts animal murderers in jail, start implementing its laws, and must understand that the world doesn’t belong to humans only but also animals. Learn to respect their rights to live, stop poisening them, stop throwing them to wilderness, stop shooting them, raping them, burning them. Stop stop stop stop your barbaric actions.

I remember a boat trip from Samos to Turkey…on the boat everybody was getting enthusiastic..trying to get the best point of vieuw on the boat…to see DOLPHINS!! WOW!! that was so GREAT,felt the spirit of them so close ..so blessed that day was.I do have pictures from it ..and now I read this…how low people can go…sad very sad..turning good memory’s behind to make place for terrible ones :0(

I think that animals should never be tortured or mistreated. Even if they do not feel the the same pain as humans or think as Humans it is unreal that people would be able to do such acts. I also must say to the person above that said that they put animals above humans. I think you are an absolute Joke. Every child that is abused or starving to death should be taken care of first and for most. There may be some adults that it would be better to save the animals then but not the children. They are the worlds most amazing creation and I feel they come first above all.
