These photos were taken in Konya two days ago. Ibrahim Söker, Turkey’s ruling party AKP’s representative in city council, drove over a snake. When he found out that the snake was still alive, he decided to kill the animal who dared to come on his way. Please, look at the photograph carefully, and see why we call Turkey the hell on earth for animals.

This is ridiculous. I heard about a dolphin just recently but I didn’t know about the snakes. Things need to change and NOW.
The only way to change a people is through education. An educational program at school is needed as it is practiced already by WSPA and others in several other areas, and it takes a generation or two.

Well, i m a Turk and live in Istanbul and i have to say that i never actually see things like these happened. These things can not be regarded as like Turkish nor Greek people torture animals. im sad about all those things but its not only happening in Turkey but all around the world. Cruelty doesnt have any nation and nations do not torture, people do. People who harm or torture any living being have no country nor flag. I m not sure about Turkish Penal Code about animal rights but im sure it needs improvements and adjustments but this is not the right way, nobody has the right to offend any nation, as an example:
“Turkey shows neither compassion and respect for human live nor for animal life …… in my opinion they are so far away from being even only remotely considered European as possible. Watch out Turkey – you have awakened the world to pay attention to what you actually do!!! – Your fasade is crumbling and the true “you” is becomming visible at last.”
Well according to these kind of posts i see that its not about animal or human rights. On the contrary these kind of racist comments have nothing to do with human nor animal rights. People like these tend to be directed easily by hatred becouse they dont respect any other culture or any other living being.
My post does not intend to defend anonymous animal torture in Turkey nor does it support the authorities responsible for such a perverse act. However I just ask the visitors of this web page to GOOGLE “animal torture COUNTRY” where they replace COUNTRY with any country they would like; for instance they might start with their own first. I think one must be aware of the possibility that there might exist animal torture acknowledged by the authorities of his/her country (scientific experiments for …?). Obviously there might be cruel people everywhere and I grant that Turkey is not an exception. But before one launches such a radical criticism against Turkey one must be critical of the situation concerning animal torture in his/her own country. Blaming Turkey does not acquit you of animal torture that exists wherever you live.

It is very nice and important that people do care about animal rights. We should all be aware about the role of animals on the ecology.
What concerns me is the language and style used in this forum and the similar ones. What is our real intention? To discuss and elaborate the ways to create a better habitat for the animals or to condemn Turkey? As far as I can see the real intention is the latter. It won’t work, then.
I agree with you guys about the way that particular person is, he can be cruel to animals. As a Turkish citizen, I agree that necessary legal action should be taken once these photos are publicized. But this does not give you the opportunity to accuse the whole nation using words like ‘barbaric’, ‘brutal’. Note that you cannot make a strong argument by using dirty words, nobody will care about what you say.
It is interesting to see that you do not have any forum on
animal experiments in the civilized Europe. Then what will happen? I’d advise to depart your own country to protest.

I regret to say that there are only very few people in Turkey who like and care for animals. The only relationship most of them have is based on pragmatical reasons such as maing money through or eating them etc It is twice difficult for Turkish people like me who actually like and want to share their habitat with animals on a respectful and humane basis. I agree on the point that educatio is the only answer for a long term solution. However, for a quick solution I believe the persons behind these cruel acts must be warned, prosecuted, charged and even put behind bars to set an example for the others with similar intentions towards animals.

If you are not part of the sollution then you are part of the problem. I live in a country thats government subsidizes the cruel slaughtering of Harp seal pups. I have no problem with people bashing my country like the ignorant individuals that do this most brutal act of killing to these poor defenceless animals.. I have begged every one not to buy our fish products until the slaughtering stops. I have petitioned and petitioned and am doing everything I can to bring this to the attention to every one. In Turkey not only animals are exposed to violence but also people are exposed to violence.For inst,in May day too many lawyer’s were exposed to police violence and approixmately 500 lawyer’s were beaten by polices.AKP’s mantality supported that.
