Turkey Massacre readers are familiar with the catastrophe that is the Beykoz district of Istanbul:
http://turkeymassacre.wordpress.com/2008/08/14/speaking-of-regular-massacre/
When we first reported to you the case of Beykoz, we had said that Beykoz “essentially defined cruelty to animals in recent times. Its unprecedented methods of torturing and killing animals heralded a new era in the history of cruelty to animals in Turkey”.
And we were right. At this stage, there are almost no stray animals left alive in Beykoz. The remaining few were “taken care of” on 8 October on an official stray animal poisoning spree.
The ones that are not exterminated on the streets are being exterminated at the municipal shelter:
This is the middle of Istanbul for you, a city which was declared the “European Capital of Culture 2010″. We believe that Istanbul has just become the “European Capital of Cruelty to Animals”.
What do you think? Is Istanbul worthy of the name culture or not? Take a look at these images again, and then please write your thoughts to the European Council that awarded the title to the city.

I have written to the above and also to the Brigitte Bardoe Foundation and to my MEP’s,
I find it hard to describe my thoughts on the pictures above, The only word I can think of right now is ” Barbaric ”
Pity they wouldnt put the Municiple officers in those cages and leave them there !
I am so mad and upset right now !!!
I will tell everyone about this, I will contact all media , all tourism offices all internet sites ..The world already knows of the way Turkish Officials treat their animals .. This will be another update !
I agree that all this is a horrible massacre, no doubt about it.
However, I also see that bunch of hate messages all over in the web site.
Some people say they Turks, some people say hate Turkey; the word ‘hate’ is in everywhere and more over you can understand that some people are really hate Turkey not just for animal massacre.
In my eyes they are much more different then thos animal killers.
This web site has to be careful about their mission, you guys are in thin line.
This is a disgrace. The people responsible should be hanging their heads in shame. The Turkish government should be ashamed that this is happening at the hands of their own officials with a blatant disregard not only for basic compassion and ethics but also for the laws of their own country. How can the rest of the world take seriously a country which condones these atrocities against living creatures and which has a total lack of respect for lawfulness. There are so many people fighting this right now across the globe. Turkey will be held accountable for its actions. The only questions are; when will this happen, and how many more innocent animals will have to die before the massacre stops.
I know that one reason this is happening is that many Turkish people don’t like dogs. I mean, literally: they see the stray animals and how shabbily they’re treated, and feel they’d be better off dead…so they allow “nature” to take its course—in the form of officials setting policies. It’s easy to look the other way, you know.
Why oh why are you doing this, These are young , healthy dogs…
If any Turkish officials read this I would like to tell them that the world is watching in disgust at the indiscriminate killing of all these animals . We all have the internet , we see what you are doing every day,
Your soil is poisoned with the blood of your animals !
It is You who are destroying your country with your animal genocide ..
There will be repurcussions – if not in this world then most definately in the next.
Turkish Officials – Hang your heads in shame for you are GUILTY !
[...] When I looked up I did a quick google search of the area where one of the jobs is and found this entirely depressing blog on animal cruelty in [...]
Those pictures are sad and appalling beyond words – those responsible are not worthy to be called “human.”
The world is watching in disgust and horror – any country which inflicts atrocities such as this on innocent animals is a disgrace to the human race.
Unfortunately the actions of the sadistic monsters responsible for these abominations blacken the name of all Turkish people – my sympathies are with those good Turkish people who are trying to fight against the awful brutality which permeates this country.
I know not all turks are horrible but it seems it is the goverment, and the mayors that are letting these killings happen by employing thick brainless uneducated men to do the evil deeds, when is turkey going to realise that other countries that are more educated will not tolerate such criminal acts of violence towards the animals, one way or another, justice will be done, and quite rightly so, if they show no humanity for the animals, how do they expect that anyone can ever feel anything for them.Dear god send your wrath to those people.make them know your displeasure, amem
