These images are from the city of Van in eastern Turkey, and the tragedy going on here defies our ability to communicate in a consistent manner…. It is horrific, it is beyond words, and it is REAL. Happened today just a few hours ago…
The stray dog you see here was hit by a car 3 days ago. Its back legs were broken as a result. Nobody took it to a vet or anything – it was left to lie there in agony for 3 days. It couldn’t walk, it could only crawl after the incident. A few good citizens there in Van tried to help it, they cared for it, brought food and water so that it would survive. In the meantime, they called the authorities to come and help the poor dog. It was in excruciating pain, just begging for someone to put it out of that misery…
Three days later, the municipal authorities of Van finally showed up. Not, however, to rescue the dog.
To the contrary, they came to kill the dog! In fact, the municipality did not even send a vet to the area. They sent a garbage truck and garbage collectors instead of medical assistance – the dog was nothing more than a piece of garbage to them anyway. And they did what they do best: rounded up the dog, tossed him into the garbage and crushed him alive. All the while, the dog screamed, screamed and screamed…
It may sound like a miracle – the dog actually survived all this. Couple of hours later, volunteers found the dog and rushed it to surgery immediately. At the moment, the dog is half-paralyzed and is in critical condition…
This is sadism of a level that defies belief – that is under normal circumstances. The same happened in Turkey before, what we don’t want to believe is that it is happening again. It is a disgrace on all humanity.
No matter where you live, even if you live on the moon, condemn this horrific massacre. Express how disgusted you are with these images not just to the local authorities of Van, but to the Prime Minister of Turkey. Tell the Turkish authorities to STOP THIS BLOODY MASSACRE RIGHT NOW!!

Shameful! How can those responsible for these cruel and inhuman acts sleep? What examples are they giving to the younger generations? What civic formation are they spreading? None!!!
This is atrocious and cannot be allowed to continue. What kind of barbarians would do this? These are not human beings, I don’t know what they are, as they are not animals either; no animal would do this. They are scum. They should be lined up and shot.
These monsters deserve no mercy – as they show no mercy to helpless dogs who cry out for help and mercy. What sorry excuses for human beings. Unspeakable cruelty.

This is nothing short of an outrage. If one hasn’t compassion for the smallest of creatures, one cannot have it for the largest. Until every sentient, sapient being is treated with well-deserved kindness and respect, wars, torture, abuse, and neglect will continue indefinitely.
Not a real story. The workers helped the animal into the back of the dump truck, although not the most sanitary or animal-friendly method of transport, they hauled him to a vet.
Dave they did not ” haul ” him to a vet…They were there simply to remove him and just look how they done it ..in the most barbaric way possible. He was rescued from them by concerned animal lovers and they took Jonah to a vet.. His condition is now such that he is paralised.. due to the fact that they dragged an already injured dog . whereas prior to their cruel intevention all he had was two broken back legs.. This dog is now in an intensive care unit as his condition is critical..
If you think that what they did was ok, I feel so sorry for you !

The dirty filthy scum should never have touched this dog, let alone drag him the way they did, would they have done that to a person with RTA injuries ?
Why didnt a vet come out to assess the dog ,
There is no doubt in my mind that the reason this poor creature is now paralized and in a critical condition is due to the way those men handled him.
The Van municipality needs to show people not only in Turkey but throughout the world that they are truely sorry and get this animal the specialist treatment he needs .. they need to do this NOW !!!
Yet another avoidable tragedy in Turkey.. The list just gets longer and longer.
People all over the world are watching the plight of Jonah.. Yes, Mayor of Van Burhan Yenigun we have given him a name. if you need to know why- because he is a living breathing being..just as you and I are !
Can you imagine just for one second the pain he endured being dragged across the road to be thrown into a filthy rubbish truck . No I doubt you can.. you would need to know compassion to be able to do that !
Turkey you need to seriously wise up.. The world is watching you and is disgusted.
If there were a public vote as to whether Turkey should join the EU… I would certainly say NO !!!!!
I hope the Van municipality will now at least show some respect for Jonah and ensure he receives the best treatment possible to make a recovery.
I understand that people from all over the world are offering Jonah a home. lets hope he survives this horrendous ordeal and gets the care and love he deserves.
This is one of the most unhumane acts i have ever seen. I don’t understand how human beings can have hearts in their bodies and still treat animals this way. I hope that knowing that people in other countries know about this and are seeing these photos will make the authorities in Turkey feel shame and reconsider their policies toward animals.
It never ceasesto amaze me how far mankind will push cruel and inhumane treatment of a living being, especially a trusting and loyal domestic animal. There is a very special place in HELL for such men. THERE IS TRULY PUNISHMENT BEYOND THE HUMAN LIFE.
I have seen some of the cruelties against animals in Turkye, but this “incident” is beyond any imagination.
I had to throw up after reading this…….
I only have one suggestion: people who are able to do this should be treated the same way. So…. first break some bones, let them suffer for a few days and then, to round it up, push them in a trasher. WITHOUT any mercy.
I cant get these images out of my mind even though i know that this dog is now safe in the veterinary clinic..but how many more are suffering the same fate right now.. ?

This news about Jonah dying is crap! I am so pissed!
I am very saddened about Jonah’s death, he will be remembered always. May you RIP dear fellow, you never got a chance to have a long, wonderful life, but you will always been in all our hearts. You suffering and death will not be in vain.
This is also why turkey, spain, greece, bulgaria, rumania and others have nothing to seek inside EU community…primitivism to the highest level. We never travelled to those countries, we do not buy anything from there, and when the earthquake unfortunately hits the God knows sometimes where to punish. Unfortunately he was not there with this doggie, but i am sure these people will more then suffer one day, all what they think they hold dear will be smashed like this poor inoccent animal. Though I doubt they know what “to hold a dear” to one means, or that they will ever know or even remotely become aware of it. They are simply not humane and should be tortured alive like this dog. Althought for these kind of people there is no cure invented till this day.

One of the saddest,most appalling and sickening stories of inhumanity and suffering to come from this country where it seems that brutality is the normal and everyday form of behaviour.

It is barbarous what they are doing there with animals…..they all are living creatures!!! These people should be ashamed of doing this.
